Hebden Bridge Light Opera Society

The Hebden Bridge Light Opera Society is based in the beautiful West Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge in the Calder Valley, and has been in existence since 1918. With the exception of a brief hiatus during World War II, the Society has put on an annual show (and sometimes more than one) pretty much consistently since it began.

The Society’s aim is to promote musical shows, operettas (musical comedies and musical romances) and concerts. These mainly take place at the Hebden Bridge Little Theatre, but we have also toured productions locally at a number of different venues.

We have two Calderdale Council licensed chaperones to ensure that any children in our productions are correctly supervised and looked after.

The Society is a membership organisation. If you are interested in becoming involved in any way, find out more about how to join us.

Community Interest Company

Hebden Bridge Light Opera Society Community Interest Company (CIC) was set up in 2012 for the benefit of the community, with the aim of providing affordable high specification rehearsal space to local performance groups who are part of  the Upper Calder Valley’s arts infrastructure.

In 2012, the Society was also awarded tenancy of Youth House in Carlton Street, Hebden Bridge. However, the venue still requires extensive modernisation in order to bring it into line with access requirements and to provide the rehearsal space we need.
